WHAT'S THIS PLAY ABOUT?

"Lady Alhambra," tells the story of Nila, an untrained medium of the Oyana Order who is forced to partner with a trickster spirit named Juracan, and fix a realm exchange portal she accidentally damaged while executing an unauthorized transcendence ritual in an attempt to reach her dead mother; all while singing and dancing at The House of Mambo Cabaret and reevaluating her unconventional relationship with the dysfunctional siblings who are running it.

WHAT AM I AUDITIONING FOR?

You are auditioning to participate in a writer's workshop with the playwright. "Lady Alhambra," is a new play that's currently being written. During the workshop, you will meet with the playwright over Zoom a total of four times for up to four hours each time to read and discuss drafts and revisions of "Lady Alhambra." The play will most likely not be finished, and the playwright will continually make changes based on the actors' input and interpretations.

IS THERE COMPENSATION?

Yes. Each actor will be paid a stipend of $80-$100 total for meeting for 2 hours for a total of 4 sessions. These sessions will take place over Zoom or similar online platform between February and the end of March of 2022.

WHEN WILL I KNOW IF I AM CONSIDERED?

End of December or sometime in early January 2022, you may be asked to confirm availability again. After you submit a request to audition, if selected, you will be asked to participate in a Zoom call back to read parts of the play with the playwright and other actors beings considered.

WHY DO I HAVE TO BE A RESIDENT OF KENTUCKY OR HAVE TIES TO KENTUCKY?

The majority of the funding that has made this production possible comes from a grant sponsored by the Kentucky Foundation for Women. The playwright would like for to put money for this project in the hands of Kentucky artists to the best of her abilities.

**For detail about the KFW grant, visit their website or Click Here for a link directly to the playwright's grant award page.

***For the purposes of this production, a Kentucky resident is not only one that fits the "legal definition", but also someone who has made Kentucky their home after relocating or immigrating there. Production also understands that some Kentucky artists may have relocated to places like LA, NYC, and Chicago, but continue to identify as Kentucky artists. That's why there's a question about having Kentucky ties and not strictly having to reside in Kentucky.
